Author Q&A

Author Q&A

Q. Where did you get the idea for this book?

A. There are 2 book series that guided the approach I took to my book:

The “What to Expect” series e.g. What to Expect When You’re Expecting; and,
“The Complete Idiot’s Guide” series, particularly the books dealing with challenging health conditions including living with breast cancer.

Both series of books take very practical approaches to dealing with life experiences. We spend so much time thinking about living, and so little time preparing for death, even though each of us must face death one day. My hope is that this book provides practical ideas on what to think about and work through both before and after the death of a loved one.

Q. Did any of your inspiration for this book originate in your real life experiences?

A. This book is a response to the void I experienced when my mother died. There were lots of books available on the process of grieving and loss, about death and dying, but nothing that walked me through the practical things that I needed to do for my mother, for my family and for me before she died. It’s my hope that this book will help guide both family and friends who must one day walk beside a loved one on their final journey.

Q. Do you have another project in the works? If so, what is it?

A. The tagline “Someone I Love” is meant to lay the groundwork for a series of books helping people work through challenging experiences in life, such as the death of a loved one. The tagline was modeled on the “What to Expect” tagline from the books by Heidi Murkoff and Sharon Mazel.
